А. Savcheva: “ Science and data behind the global climate“

Abstract:
The global warming or the global climate change and whether it is caused by human activities is an up-to-date question for more than a decade. In this lecture we will look at the main natural processes under discussion – the greenhouse effect, the circulation of substances and various feedback mechanisms that could have effect on climate. The fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (ICCP5) was published at the end of last year and we will present the newest results from data and models, trying to estimate the magnitude of the problem and the possible solutions in the case of anthropogenic global warming.

S. Tassev: „What did we learn about the Universe this year?“

Abstact: …

Alternative: „Science as a story, that allows us to control the world around us“.

**********************************************
Eva Bozhurova, “Galileo Galilei – discoveries and predictions”.

Abstract:
The talk is dedicated to the 450-th anniversary of the birth of Galileo Galilei. The lecture will include the biography of the great scientist and his main discoveries and inventions. These will be used as a basis to explain some interesting concepts in astronomy and physics. There will be little-known and unusual facts and plenty of illustrations and animations.

Alexander Kurtenkov: “Sky surveys in the 21st century”.

Abstract:
The aim of this lecture is to present summary of the instruments, methods and results of the large astronomical sky surveys. We will compare traditional astronomical observations to sky surveys. The presentation will include a classification of the surveys according to their spectral region, whether they are spectroscopic or photometric, whether they have a regular coverage and will add some examples. We will focus on UKIDSS, VISTA, PanSTARRS-1 and results from them so far. We will talk about the expected results GAIA and LSST.

Iva Dzhilianova, „Human body in Space”.

Abstract: Which are the main factors affecting human body in Space and how (microgravity, radiation)? Effects of space flights on human biological clock, locomotor and immune systems, and space adaptation syndrome. We will talk about the life of the astronauts during their flights. What would happen if they were out unprotected in Space? . There will be little-known facts and some history from recent flights.

Patrick McCauley, „Comet Lovejoy`s Death-Defying Dance with the Sun“.
